urbanlab_, founded by Andrew Budgen and Nathan Lonsdale is a collective of free-thinkers, architects, designers, developers, engineers, social scientist, educators, and technologists who are curious to challenge convention, giving freedom to play, fail and explore. The co-founders were excited by the potential for how architecture could change people’s lives and how they could build a dynamic, creative culture around this ambition. Using research to drive a more human-centred design approach to architecture the urbanlab_ ethos is that through design we could improve people’s lives and help make the world a better place.

Hawk Block Management will be working on the new urbanlab_ Stratford Park development in E15, a collection  of one, two and three bedroom apartments with help to buy options. A new and improved church and community facility will be delivered on this site in Stratford, East London with flats over the upper floors. The community facility will be funded through the sale of the private residential flats.

The proposed redevelopment of the site will provide approx. 5050 sq ft of new community / church floor space over ground and lower ground floor levels. It is envisaged that the new church and community facility will include a main congregation hall at entrance level, together with café/kitchen meeting room area, office, and toilets crèche and Sunday school.

Above the church will be 17 new dwellings over five floors with every unit having its own private outdoor amenity space in the form of a terrace or balcony. The proposed elevations are designed to create a contemporary, striking new mixed use development in this urban context as befitting of a landmark building, reflecting the importance of the use. The mixture of materials and finishes and the articulation of form creates interest to the elevations and blends in to the immediate urban grain in a modern contemporary way.
